Hutton: This is Connor Goldson’s stance on signing new Rangers deal after ‘speaking to him myself’

Alan Hutton has claimed Connor Goldson would “love” to sign a new contract at Rangers after “speaking to” the Ibrox defender.

The former Gers full-back and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old simply wants to be “rewarded” for everything he has done for the club since his arrival.

As quoted by the Glasgow Times (20 May), Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted there is a “small chance” Goldson will sign an extension after prolonged negotiations at Ibrox.

The centre-back’s current terms expire this summer.

Hutton insisted Goldson “loves” life at Rangers and wants to stay for next season.

However, he suggested the “sticking point” is what both parties feel is a fair increase in wages.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He is one of the main men in the squad. It’s quite as simple as that. He’s the vice-captain, a guy who plays week in, week out, he’s always fit and a leader on the pitch.

“It’s one of those ones where he probably wants to stay at the club. After speaking to him a few times myself, I know that he loves being there and he wants to be there in the future.

“But you have to reward these players for what they’ve given the club over the last X amount of seasons. I think that’s the sticking point at this moment in time.”

Rangers

Goldson joined Rangers from Brighton in the summer of 2018.

He has gone on to play 223 times for the Glasgow giants.
