Hutton thrilled by ‘what I heard’ from Van Bronckhorst about Rangers starlets
Alan Hutton was thrilled to hear Giovanni van Bronckhorst discuss his plans to integrate youth players into the senior side at Rangers.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted there is now a clear pathway for academy products at Ibrox.
As quoted by Football Scotland on Sunday (23 January), Van Brockhorst revealed he wants young players “involved” in the senior setup.
He hailed promising trio Alex Lowry, Leon King and Charlie McCann after their involvement against Stirling Albion.
Lowry scored after coming off the bench for his debut.
Meanwhile, King came on as a late substitute and McCann remained on the bench.
Hutton revealed his delight after hearing the manager’s plans for the next generation at Ibrox.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I like what I heard from Van Bronckhorst. He spoke well about bringing the kids through and how he sees them progressing in the future.
“I think as a fan you want to see that. You want to see the academy working well. Obviously, Nathan Patterson coming through shows the kids there’s a pathway to the first team.
“I did think a couple of them would start against Stirling, to be honest, but then again, Rangers do have a big squad. A lot of players hadn’t had minutes, so I understand that.
“They actually got on the pitch and did well, they didn’t look out of place. I think that’s the main thing. So they’re obviously training with the first team regularly, you can see that.
“It’s about keeping your feet on the ground now and working hard. You’ve done the hard bit to get there, it’s about staying there. Show the manager that you can cope with these big games.”

Van Bronckhorst did not name any academy graduates in the starting XI against Stirling.
King and McCann have been on the bench intermittently this season.
