Hutton verdict on Newcastle replacing pal Bruce with big name amid Downie update today
Alan Hutton has suggested Steve Bruce will be sacked by the new Newcastle United owners as the club target a big name to replace him.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa defender insisted the new board on Tyneside need to take action to arrest the club’s poor start to the season.
As revealed by Football Insider (12th October), Newcastle are making contact with several high-profile managers as they prepare to replace Bruce.
Steven Gerrard, Brendan Rodgers and Rafael Benitez are among the consortium’s top managerial targets.
Bruce remains in charge and, as reported by Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, oversaw training on Tuesday morning.

Hutton admitted sacking Bruce would be “harsh”.
However, he insisted the new owners need to consider the club’s future in terms of Premier League survival.
“I mean it’s definitely harsh, I think,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I do feel for him. In terms of knowing him, I know him really well, I know him as a guy.
“As soon as these billionaire owners come in, they have their own different ideas. What they want from the club, the direction and ultimately they’re sitting second-bottom of the league.
“So, it has not been going the way that they would want. That is, first and foremost, the thing that they’re going to have to sort out there, that they stay in this league.
“Then the progression comes. It doesn’t surprise me that they’re talking about different managerial options.”
Newcastle are one of four top-flight teams without a win this season.
They face Tottenham on Sunday in what will be their first game since the takeover.
