'He's the one' - Exclusive: Hutton wowed as Villa plot mega signing who 'Screams quality'
Alan Hutton admits he would be “over the moon” if Aston Villa were to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford this summer.
The former Villa and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that the Bees’ striker “screams quality” and that he would be a perfect fit for Dean Smith’s men.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Villa are plotting a £50million double swoop for Watkins and Said Benrahma.
Watkins hit 26 goals across all competitions last season as Brentford came within touching distance of the Premier League only to lose to Fulham in the play-off final.
Hutton admits the Bees’ star would be his top target this summer and believes he could be an immediate hit were he to move.
Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s the one for me, I’ve watched him a lot, I’ve played against him and I think he’s improved year on year.

“His stats are very high and not only that, he works hard. I think this is what Villa need, not just somebody who’s going to stand up there and think: ‘I’m just going to play in this box, get the ball in the ball to me and I’ll try and score.’
“This is a guy I’ve watched a lot and his work ethic, everything about him screams quality. If they’re going to spend big money, this is who I’d be doing it on. Not only that, I think he’s got space to get even better.
“He’s only young, he’s still learning, he’s hungry – I’m saying all these good things about him but it’s all true. I don’t see too many weaknesses in his game at the moment and the next step for him is to step up into the Premier League.
“Can he handle it up there? I believe he can so if they could get him this summer, I’d be absolutely over the moon with that, I think it’d be an absolutely fantastic signing. I can see why Dean Smith is desperate to get someone like that in.”
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have been backed to sign a 25-year-old from Premier League giants after a “huge” risk.
