‘I almost smashed my TV’ – Rangers fans want Thelo Aasgaard ‘sacked on the spot’ after what he did vs Livingston

Rangers fans have erupted at Thelo Aasgaard for a moment that he produced in the dying stages of their 2-2 draw away at Livingston on Sunday.

Danny Rohl’s side mounted a late comeback to snatch a draw against the Scottish Premiership’s bottom club, but they headed home frustrated that they didn’t take all three points from the game.

Aasgaard came off the bench in the 73rd minute of the encounter, but struggled to make a telling impact on the game, and he is now without a goal contribution in the league since 11 January.

The 23-year-old has struggled to earn himself a regular place in the starting XI since his summer move from Luton Town, and he has been the subject of plenty of vitriol from the fans after a disappointing moment against Livingston.

Rangers fans explode at ‘utterly criminal’ Thelo Aasgaard decision

Aasgaard has received limited minutes for Rangers of late, as Rohl has preferred to rotate between the trio of Mikey Moore, Andreas Skov Olsen and Djeidi Gassama in the wide and attacking midfield areas in recent weeks.

However, he was handed the opportunity to come on and change the game by his manager on Sunday, but it was a chance that he failed to grasp.

Aasgaard had just 11 touches during his late cameo, and arguably his most frustrating one came when he fired a shot high and wide from distance in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

The youngster’s strike alleviated all of the pressure that had been heaped upon the hosts, and effectively consigned Rangers to a frustrating draw with just seconds remaining.

Fans have wasted no time in cutting into him for his decision, as they took to X to share their fury, with one supporter suggesting that he should have been “sacked on the spot” for deciding to shoot, while another added that they “almost smashed their TV” when he let fly.

The moment was also branded as a demonstration of “utterly criminal decision making,” while several fans pointed out that he appeared to smirk after firing wide.

Nedim Bajrami set for reprieve as Djeidi Gassama also under fire

Gassama has also found himself under fire from Rangers fans after Sunday’s draw away from home, and as a result, Nedim Bajrami could be set for an unlikely reprieve in the coming weeks.

Fans clearly think that the attacking duo of Gassama and Aasgaard are seriously underperforming, and that could open the door for Rohl to throw Bajrami back in at the deep end.

The Albanian has started just three league games since the beginning of the season, but came off the bench to set up Emmanuel Fernandez’s goal as part of the comeback against Livingston.

Moore has continued to flourish, but with Skov Olsen and the rest of the attacking midfielders and widemen struggling a little at the moment, Rohl could turn to him in the coming weeks to try and provide a spark.
