Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has given Mauricio Pochettino a huge boost for the end of the season run-in by announcing that he is ready to play again for the club.
Alderweireld gave an interview to Sky Sports insisting that he was ready for a return to match action and could even feature in this weekend’s FA Cup tie against Newport County.
“I feel good. I feel fit. I’m strong. I feel ready to give 100 per cent again, like I always do,” the Belgian told Sky Sports News.
Alderweireld also gave this personal update on his Instagram feed and stated, ‘The pitch is calling’:
The Belgian international has been missing after incurring a hamstring strain as his side beat Spanish giants Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League back in November.
Tottenham have been a different prospect without the 28-year-old enforcer in their side and when they had looked as though they might offer a championship challenge earlier in the season, following Alderweireld’s injury, they’ve seemed far less stable at the back and fallen behind the frontrunners.
Spurs could not have hoped to get the Belgian enforcer back at a better time, with the final run in to the end of the season set to begin, the Lillywhites will need Alderweireld in their pursuit of a Champions League place.
