‘I can see why Bruce wants him’ – Exclusive: Hutton reacts to ‘Unbelievable’ Newcastle pursuit
Alan Hutton claimed Newcastle United would be getting an “unbelievable” player if they were to pull off a deal for John McGinn this summer.
However, the former Rangers and Villa full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, feared a move could be difficult with bigger teams chasing the 25-year-old’s signature.
Bruce signed the Scotland international whilst he was manager of Villa in August 2018 and the Magpies manager is reported to be keen to be reunited the player.
According to the Daily Star, the Aston Villa midfielder, who is valued at £30million, is a target for Steve Bruce in the upcoming transfer window as he looks to bolster his midfield options.
McGinn has been sidelined since December 21 having fractured his ankle in a 3-1 home defeat to Southampton but is in line for a return when the season resumes.
When asked by Football Insider if a move to St. James Park would suit both player and club, Hutton said: “It would be good for Newcastle. Whether he would want to go to Newcastle is a different story.
“He has been unbelievable. A great guy and very down to earth. I would imagine some big teams will be watching him because he has everything. He can run all day, he is strong and can score goals.
“I can see why Steve Bruce wants him because he brought him to Villa and he knows how good he is and can be. It does not surprise me that they are interested.”
A move could hinge on the whereabouts of the Claret and Blues next year with Dean Smith’s side currently in the relegation zone with just ten games remaining.
In other Newcastle United news, Danny Mills has told Football Insider player’s return will provide big boost for Steve Bruce when season resumes.
