‘I can’t believe it’ – Aston Villa charging ‘massive’ prices in new controversy
Aston Villa are charging “massive” ticket prices as a new controversy has emerged at Villa Park.
Unai Emery’s side will host Newcastle United on the opening day of the new Premier League season on 16 August.
Villa have come under fire after announcing the ticket prices for the fixture.
The cheapest adult ticket will set fans back £58, while prices reach £82 behind the goal in the Holte End and the premium 1888 half-way line seats are priced at £92.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he can’t believe there is a sufficient number of Villa fans that can afford to pay £82 behind the goal for a Premier League game.
It comes after Villa confirmed season ticket and match-by-match prices for adults would rise by 5 per cent for the 2025-26 campaign.
The West Midlands giants have faced profit and sustainability (PSR) issues over the past couple of seasons as they look to close the gap on the top clubs.
Villa completed the last-ditch sale of their women’s team last month, helping them raise funds before their accounting deadline on 30 June.

Borson insisted the ticket prices must now be close to reaching the limit at Villa Park.
He told Football Insider: “It’s so much money for a ticket behind the goal that I had to check can that really be true?
“It is true. The only sort of thing that you would say is that there are very substantial discounts on concessions in the Holte End.
“I don’t know how many people will be paying the full price, but that is a massive ticket price for a league game.
“All these American owners are looking at the ticket prices and thinking ‘Well, we can charge much more because we do it in the US and we get away with it, so we’re going to do it here’, and you’re going to see this sort of inflation all over the place.
“I can’t believe that there are sufficient numbers of local fans in Birmingham that will be able to afford £82 behind the goal for a league game. I can’t believe that.
“So, I don’t know, there is a limit, clubs are going to take it too far. But it just depends how much money either their fan base have actually got or their fan base are prepared to spend on sport. It seems to me we must be getting close.
“If you’ve got a Midlands club charging £82 behind the goal, we must be getting close to the limit.”

Chelsea offer two stars in sensational Morgan Rogers swap deal
In terms of transfer activity, Football Insider revealed on 28 July Chelsea have made an offer for Morgan Rogers that includes two stars in a cash-plus-players exchange bid.
The Blues are now ramping up their bid to sign the Villa playmaker, who is their top target for the remainder of the summer transfer window.
Villa are resisting interest in Rogers from Chelsea as well as several other Premier League rivals and have made it clear the 23-year-old is not for sale.
However, Enzo Maresca’s side are believed to have offered Nicolas Jackson and Tosin Adarabioyo as well as a cash sum to Villa in part-exchange for the England international.
