‘I can’t believe it’ – Celtic fans stunned by Chris Sutton’s verdict on Joe Hart challenge as footage emerges

Many Celtic fans have blasted Chris Sutton for his “ridiculous” verdict on Toyosi Olusanya’s challenge on Joe Hart on Tuesday (2 January).

The Hoops secured a 3-0 win against St Mirren at the SMISA Stadium courtesy of early strikes from Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley and a 60th-minute effort from Greg Taylor.

However, a huge controversy was sparked when the Saints’ Olusanya’s initial yellow card was overturned and changed to a straight red after a VAR check for a high-boot straight into Joe Hart’s face.

The latest Sky Sports footage showed the forward clatter Hart directly into his face with his studs as he attempted to tap the ball into the Celtic net in the closing moments of the first half.

Celtic hero Sutton stated live on commentary and subsequently on his X account that he felt Olusanya’s dismissal was “harsh” as it was accidental contact.

While many fans agreed that Olusanya did not intend to hit Hart in such a violent manner, they were baffled that Sutton did not think it was worthy of an immediate sending-off.

Supporters pointed out that the St Mirren man was endangering his opponent and that Hart, who played the remainder of the game, was very lucky to have escaped the challenge relatively unharmed.

Fans have taken to social media to put Sutton in check for his “nightmare” of an opinion.
