Kevin Phillips cannot wait to watch Thiago Alcantara play after the Liverpool midfielder was pictured training ahead of Sunday’s game against West Brom.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner claimed the 29-year-old’s return from injury was a “huge boost” ahead of a “hectic” festive period.
Thiago was pictured training at Kirkby on Wednesday as he continues his recovery from a knee injury suffered in October’s Merseyside derby.
However, Jurgen Klopp revealed in his press conference today that the Boxing Day clash against West Brom will come too early for the Spain international.
James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri, who also made recoveries from injury this week, could be in contention.
When asked by Football Insider if the trio’s return would have a big impact on Liverpool’s season, Phillips said:
“It is great news for Liverpool, especially over this hectic period where the games come thick and fast.
“Those three coming back might sway Klopp’s thinking before the January window. He may feel that he does not need to dip into it too much now. It might just be one or two.

“To have Thiago back training is a huge boost. To have Milner back as well… He brings that versatility and experience.
“It is great news for Jurgen Klopp. Thiago is the one who most Liverpool fans will be excited about. I cannot wait to watch him play.”
