‘I’d want to move’ – Ian Wright delivers verdict on future of Everton 23-year-old

By Matt Bullin

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has claimed he expects Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to leave the club this summer.

Wright’s comments came after Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Fernando Llorente bagged the only goal of the game as he headed in his 13th Premier League goal of the season.

Lukaku had a quiet afternoon and was limited to few chances as his teammates struggled to provide for him.

The result means Swansea climb out of the relegation zone, but Ronald Koeman’s side remain in seventh.

Speaking on BT Sport 1’s post-match analysis of the game, Wright said: “If I’m him now I’d want to move. I do expect him to leave [Everton].

“I’ve seen him a few times this season and he could have another 10-12 goals just from service and that can be frustrating.

“This is why maybe he hasn’t signed because he feels he wants to go to the next level. To do that he’s got to go somewhere where he can learn that aspect of the game – keeping the ball, staying in the centre and finishing off.”

Despite not scoring in his last three games Lukaku is still the Premier League’s leading scorer with 24 goals in his 35 games, as well as supplying six assists.

There has been much speculation surrounding Lukaku’s future after he has refused to sign a new contract tying him to Goodison Park thus far.

Since joining the Blues in 2014 the 23-year-old has become one of the most feared strikers in the league and has scored 86 goals in 164 league and cup games.

Lukaku has also scored 23 goals in 53 games for Belgium.
