‘I get annoyed’ – Thierry Henry blasts Micah Richards for what he said about Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak has the complete backing of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the striker gets used to life at Liverpool this season.

Isak made his debut against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, 17 September, having recovered from injury over the last few weeks, and he made an instant impact in the Champions League.

The former Newcastle United star did not manage to get on the scoresheet, but with Mohamed Salah grabbing a 52nd Champions League goal and a winner from Virgil van Dijk, the Reds sealed three points.

With 52 goals across the last two seasons with the Magpies, it should only be a matter of time before he’s hitting the back of the net, and due to his ability, Isak continues to be compared to Erling Haaland of Man City.

Alexander Isak and Erling Haaland should not be compared

Speaking on CBS Sports Golazo (17 September), Micah Richards said that Isak is currently the best striker in the Premier League “apart from Erling Haaland” while discussing the player’s attributes.

Turning to Henry, Jamie Carragher asked: Erling Haaland or Alexander Isak?” to which the Arsenal legend replied, “They’re different players. There’s one guy who can play on the left and the right, and then you have a goal-machine who lives in the box.

“In my day, a 4-4-2 would have been brilliant to have them both. They’re different players. I get annoyed when people compare an in-and-out striker with a guy who moves around.

“You can’t compare them because they’re two different players,” and the rest of the studio had very little to say on the matter following the Frenchman’s passionate rant.

What has Arne Slot said about Isak’s start to life at Liverpool?

Although the striker did not last until the hour mark, being replaced by Hugo Ekitike, a stellar debut was never to be expected from the 25-year-old after such a hectic summer period.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Slot said: “I was positively surprised by how fit he was during those 60 minutes. Although he only trained for two weeks, he has so many games under his belt that he is probably more able to be ready for 60.”

With Liverpool next facing Everton in the Merseyside derby, those are not words that David Moyes will have wanted to hear, but it was only a matter of time before the striker was fully fit.

That game will give him the perfect opportunity to open his account in red and show the rest of the Premier League that his form is certainly going to continue after his move to Anfield.
