‘Decidedly odd’ – Chris Sutton vents at Rodgers decision to start Celtic player

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has claimed he doesn’t understand why Odosnne Edouard has continued to be in the starting line-up for Celtic recently.

Brendan Rodgers decided that the on-loan Frenchman was preferred to both Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths for the games against Hamilton and Partick Thistle, and scored a hat-trick against Motherwell earlier this month.

As shown on the BT Sport Football Twitter account, the former Celtic striker claims that Edouard is the third best striker at the Hoops.

“Why is Edouard playing? That’s something, I just don’t get it”, he said.

Sutton added: “He’s the third best striker, for Griffiths and Dembele not to be playing is decidedly odd.”

Celtic player Edouard has had a decent spell since joining from PSG on loan, scoring on his debut against Hamilton in September.

He then had a spell out of the side, before returning in the past month during the Hoops’ spell of nine games in December.

The Bhoys have an option to make Edouard’s loan deal permanent at the end of the season.

The Hoops have a big three games ahead of them, with matches against Aberdeen and Rangers at home and an away trip to Dundee before the January winter break begins.

It will be interesting to see if Edouard keeps his place in the side or if Demeble returns against the teams closest to the Bhoys in the Scottish Premiership table.
