It is only “a matter of time” before the West Ham board reward David Moyes with a new contract.
That is the view of former Aston Villa and Scotland manager Alex McLeish who, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady – also known as GSB – would be “ecstatic” with the 57-year-old.
As quoted by talkSPORT at the end of December, Moyes confirmed he had a performance-based clause which could extend his contract past it’s current expiry date at the end of the season.
The Scottish boss, who was in charge of the Irons between November 2017 and May 2018, was appointed for a second spell in east London back in December after Manuel Pellegrini was relieved of his duties.
McLeish, who worked with the current West Ham owners during their time at Birmingham City, believes they will be over the moon with the work of his fellow countryman and suggested a contract extension – whether triggered by the clause or otherwise – was on its way.
McLeish told Football Insider: “I’ve worked with David Gold, David Sullivan and Karen (Brady) before and I know their workings and things.
“They’ll be ecstatic with the job David has done and the position that they are in, so I think it’s only a matter of time.
“At the same time, they’ll be cautious as well but David has done a great job with some fantastic recruitment.”
Since Moyes revealed his contract clause, West Ham have won all four of their games across all competitions.
They conceded their first and only goal of 2021 in the 2-1 win over West Brom, having kept clean sheets against Everton, Stockport and Burnley.
