A loan move away from Aston Villa for Conor Hourihane would suit all parties, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the legendary former Villa striker insisted the 29-year-old has been very unlucky this season but he will want to be playing regular football.
Football Insider exclusively revealed last week Championship high-fliers Swansea City were lining up a loan move for the midfielder.
That deal is edging ever closer with manager Dean Smith telling the press he was “reluctant” to let Hourihane go and wanted him back at Villa Park next season.
After starting the first two Premier League games of the season, the Republic of Ireland international has started just one league game since Ross Barkley’s arrival.
“I think for Conor, he loves Aston Villa,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“I know him very well, I’m good friends with him. He’s loved Aston Villa, he’s loved his time at Aston Villa.
“But he’s not playing enough football this season and Conor is the sort of player who doesn’t want to be on the bench and not coming on in games even though it’s a massive club.
“He’ll want to go and play football. He’s 29. He doesn’t want to have his last part of his career on the bench not coming on.
“As much as he loves the club, he’ll want to go out and play football. So I think it’s a deal that suits both parties.
“Conor has been very unlucky. He’s been outstanding for Villa and it’s a shame that he’s going to end up going.”
Hourihane made his 150th Villa appearance against West Ham United at the end of November.
He has scored 29 goals and provided 23 assists in his three years at Villa Park.
