‘I know Wolves have rejected takeover offers, this is when Fosun will sell up’

Wolves’ ownership will not be looking to sell the club amid their expected relegation to the Championship.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Wolves should have been sold last summer.

Wolves fans have protested against the ownership at matches this season, with the club having registered just two points from 15 Premier League games.

Relegation to the Championship could lead to Wolves’ valuation dropping by £200million, and there has yet to be any hope under Rob Edwards that the club can stay in the Premier League.

Wolves ownership slammed by Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Wolves have been on the “decline” for years.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks Wolves will not be looking to sell the club in their current position.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think Fosun will sell right now, although they probably should have done that last summer. I know they had some enquiries they should have [accepted and] sold. I think they’ll wait.

“The Championship won’t get the value they want, and they’ll hope that they’ll give it a season and they’ll see if they can push back up. And I think that’s what Rob Edwards has been hired for, is to look at a promotion push next year. So look, I think Fosun are not great owners.

I don’t think the Chinese owners in general, although I’ve always said it isn’t the nationality. They’re only good owners and bad owners, not necessarily the nationality. But there have been, I think, about 12 or 13 different Chinese ownerships that have all ended badly.

So that’s another data point that you can’t ignore. So, yes, it’s sad for the Wolves fans who have sort of seen some great stuff since 2016, but certainly the last two or three years they’ve seen nothing but managed decline.

Key players could depart Wolves

Wolves could be forced to sell players in January amid their likely relegation, and a drop in revenue which will come from not being in the Premier League.

Joao Gomes is a target for Man United, whilst striker Jorgen Strand Larsen may also be of interest having been heavily pursued by Newcastle in the summer window.

Edwards may be preparing for life in the Championship, with an instant return to the Premier League far from guaranteed.
