‘I Listened to Harry Redknapp & He’s Right’ – Top pundit fumes over Dele Alli latest

Alan Hutton has claimed Harry Redknapp is spot-on about Dele Alli – and can’t believe he remained at Tottenham after the window shut.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Scotland defender suggested Jose Mourinho had not done his job to get the best out of the 24-year-old midfielder after a frustrating first half of the season.

The Telegraph report Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy played a major role in the England international remaining in north London despite his lack of game time, with interest from the likes of PSG interested in a move.

Alli has played just 12 times across all competitions this season, with just one Premier League start under his belt.

Hutton has admitted he is less than pleased the midfielder has been forced to remain at Tottenham and suggested Mourinho needed to take a different approach to get Alli back to his best form.

Asked if he was happy to see the 24-year-old stay at Spurs, Hutton told Football Insider: “No I am not, I really feel for him, honestly I do.

“It frustrates the life out of me and he must be, imagine how he feels at the moment? He can’t get a move, he can’t get in a squad, he’s in limbo.

“Obviously, we don’t see what goes on at the training ground, if he’s training, how he’s training, is he training hard? We don’t see that but just going off what sort of player he can be, surely, as a manager, it’s your job to get the best out of the player.

“Gareth Bale’s been a shadow of himself, Dele Alli can’t even get in a squad – just play them. I listened to Harry Redknapp and he was totally right, you need to put your arm around some of these players, they’re your best talents, play them on the pitch – they are better than what’s on the pitch, get them playing.”

Alli’s last league appearance came in a three-minute cameo against Liverpool back in December, while his last start came in the FA Cup win over Marine.

He is currently out of action with a calf injury and has been joined in the treatment room by Harry Kane in the past week.
