Darren Bent heaped praise on Leeds United fringe player Tyler Roberts after he impressed on his first league start of the season in the 2-0 win over QPR on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Premier League forward shared that he rated Roberts really highly and added that he thought the Wales international did well against QPR.
Roberts has been sparingly-used by Marcelo Bielsa this season as ahead of playing the full 90 minutes on Saturday, the 20-year-old had only featured for a total of 106 minutes across the five Championship appearances he had managed before that.
Bent elaborated on his view about Roberts wowing on Saturday in order to reveal that what he really liked about Leeds this season is that when someone was injured, there was someone capable of stepping in to replace them.
When asked for his view on Roberts, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah, I rate him really highly, to be fair he has done well.
“He played really really well, he did get a goal and what I really like about Leeds, they have someone who can step in whenever they have injuries or anything like that.
“Bielsa just manages to make it work like it’s nothing and he has to take a lot of the credit as he just sees things in people.
“Roberts played really really well.”
Roberts missed being available for Leeds’ first six league games of the season due to an injury, with him recovering from having fluid drained from his knee in May.
The attacker has been at Elland Road since January 2018 after joining from West Bromwich Albion and is contracted to stay with Leeds until 2022.
In other Leeds United news, Danny Mills claims that a number of Whites players are under serious pressure after one sighting on Saturday.
