‘I saw three different angles’ – Matt Le Tissier makes confession after re-analysing Dan Burn footage
Dan Burn’s reaction to the sending off and penalty given against him in Newcastle’s clash against Brentford was an indicator that he could have no complaints about either decision.
That is according to Premier League legend Matt Le Tissier, who has exclusively told Football Insider that he did feel for the Newcastle defender after seeing minimal contact on Dango Ouattara, but his lack of protests pointed to the right decision having been made.
Dan Burn had a tough afternoon in West London as he was involved in a couple of major incidents against Brentford and his side went home empty-handed.
Ouattara was booked for simulation under challenge from Burn on the hour mark, but just 13 minutes later the big Geordie defender received his marching orders for a foul inside the box on the Bees forward.
Igor Thiago stepped up to score from the spot to make it 2-1, and Brentford beat Newcastle 3-1 in the capital as the striker notched a late brace for the three points.

Burn was given a second yellow for last-man tackle on Ouattara
Burn was given his first booking in the 49th minute for a pull on Ouattara as he advanced into the Magpies’ half.
He soon rode his luck as referee Stuart Attwell deemed his tackle inside the box on the hour mark to be one of minimal contact and duly carded Ouattara for a dive.
Burn was soon sent-off in his third altercation with the Bees forward as he raced forward in the 73rd minute and was seemingly caught by the Newcastle defender as he entered the box.
He immediately accepted his fate by walking away as soon as Attwell had brandished the second yellow, but former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Burn did not deserve to be sent off as there was no foul committed.
Le Tissier unsure of Burn foul but thinks his reaction was telling
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Southampton striker Le Tissier insisted that he felt there was no offence by Burn in real time and on replays, but the England international’s guilty reaction was enough evidence to show that he deserved the red.
He said: “From the angles that I saw, and I saw about two or three different angles of it, I didn’t see a huge amount of contact in it. It almost felt like he (Burn) missed what he was trying to do. And so, you know, I think I probably felt a little bit sorry for Dan Burn in the end.
“He took it really well. This is the thing that kind of makes me think maybe there was a bit more contact than what we saw on the on the camera angles, because Dan was almost resigned to his fate.
“He didn’t make too much of a fuss of it, and I don’t know if that’s just because he’s a nice bloke and he just, you know, he accepts what comes, but from his reaction I kind of thought, oh blimey, he’s not that upset about that.
“Maybe he did catch him (Ouattara) a little bit, a bit firmer than what we saw on the cameras.”
