26-year-old confirms he wants Celtic deal, talks underway with Rodgers

Celtic’s January loan signing Scott Bain has confirmed that talks are underway between his representatives and the Hoops about making his transfer a permanent one in the summer.

And despite interest from relegation threatened PL side Stoke, who sit 19th in that league, as first reported by The Sun last month, Bain has disclosed that he sees his future in the East End of Glasgow.

“I’ve had a chat with the manager and told him I want to stay at Celtic. He’s keen for me to be here and I’m hopeful that I will be at this great club for years to come” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“It’s all sinking in now that I am a Celtic player. I’m loving it and enjoying myself every day.

“It’s mad how it has worked out but that’s football. Craig Gordon got injured and I was the lucky one who got the call to come here — and got this opportunity.”

Bain got his chance for the Hoops when both Gordon and Dorus de Vries went down with injuries, ensuring that the 26-year-old made his debut in the 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox, where he turned in a fine display.

Gordon has now returned to the side but Bain has done well in his limited number of performances for the Hoops.

Football Insider verdict

This would be excellent news for the Hoops if they could get Bain tied down on a permanent contract at the end of the season. He has shown in his three starts for the Hoops that he is a more than capable deputy for Gordon, and that he is a far better goalkeeper than de Vries. The fact that he is nine years young than Gordon also shows that he could eventually take over as the Hoops number one in a few years’ time. After having goalkeeper issues for so long, if Bain stays the Hoops will have two excellent players in that position for the first time in a number of years, which can only be a good thing.
