Club legend Ian Rush has said that Liverpool need to make two signings in the January transfer window, and also backed his club to challenge for the signature of Gareth Bale.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have made an inconsistent start to the season as they lie three points off the top four after 11 games in the Premier League.
Results such as a 4-0 win over Arsenal have been offset by poor performances including a 5-0 loss to Manchester City and a 4-1 drubbing by Spurs.
Rush believes that Klopp needs to bring in a couple of new faces if Liverpool are to maintain their challenge for the Champions League spots.
Speaking to the Mirror, Rush said: “Hopefully we can get one or two players in in January, but it’s very difficult though. I think [Klopp] knows what players he wants.”
Liverpool’s record scorer also took the opportunity to urge Liverpool to enter the race for his Welsh compatriot Gareth Bale.
Rush believes that the club have the resources needed to challenge other top clubs for Bale’s signature, if he decides to leave Real Madrid.
Rush said: “Maybe Tottenham have first offer, Man United has been talked about, maybe because the goalkeeper [David De Gea] could go the other way?I’d love to see him at Liverpool though. A world class player.
“We don’t know what will happen, but it would be great to see him back here [in the Premier League] and at Liverpool.”
In other Liverpool news, the club are reportedly ready to let these five players go in January.
