Ian Taylor delivers verdict on Aston Villa win v Derby

By Danny Wright

Aston Villa legend Ian Taylor was delighted as his former side picked up a much needed win over Derby on Saturday.

The 1-0 victory ended a run of nine league games without a win for Villa and Taylor said on his personal Twitter page that he was relieved despite the victory coming in a very scrappy affair.

James Chester scored the only goal of the game but Villa hung on to what would be their first win since Boxing Day.

Leandro Bacuna was sent off in the closing stages for headbutting the linesman.

Taylor, who played for Villa between 1995 and 2003, also had a spell at Derby, but was happy to see the Birmingham-based side seal the victory.

Steve Bruce’s side face a crucial fixture on Tuesday when they take on Bristol City at Villa Park.

Bristol are one of the sides between Villa and the bottom three so a win would go a long way to moving them away from a potential relegation scrap.

Taylor made 245 appearances during his eight years with Aston Villa and scored 33 goals.

The former midfielder also had spells with Northampton and Sheffield Wednesday.
