Ian Wright: Southgate must build England team around this Tottenham sensation
By Danny Wright
Ian Wright believes that England need to build their team around Tottenham’s Dele Alli.
The 20-year-old has been a sensation with Tottenham since joining from MK Dons in 2015.
Arsenal legend Wright worked with Alli during his time as a first-team coach at the Milton Keynes club and said that he could tell back then that he was destined for big things.
Wright added that he believes that Gareth Southgate has to use him as the focal point in his England teams.
“I had a year with him at MK Dons and the thing is when you see him play in those games, even in training and Under-21 games, he had the respect, the determination and the drive,” said Wright on ITV ahead of England’s international friendly fixture with Germany on Wednesday.

“You could see that’s he was going to do what he’s doing now.
“Are we going to build a team around him? Or are we going to do what we’ve done in the past and put him over there [on the wing] just to get him in the team?
“Let’s start building the team around him.”
Alli earned his 16th England cap in Dortmund on Wednesday, missing a glorious chance in the first half to put his side ahead in a 1-0 loss, but it’s his performances in a Tottenham shirt that have impressed fans and pundits alike this season.
In 39 appearances across all competitions, the Spurs midfielder has bagged 17 goals and eight assists as he’s helped fire his side up to second in the Premier League.
The former MK Dons talent has scored in all four of his last four outings for Maurico Pochettino’s side in wins against Millwall, Stoke, Everton and Southampton.
Alli will be setting his sights on helping the Three Lions reach the 2018 World Cup in his next outing at Spurs’ future temporary home Wembley on Sunday against minnows Lithuania.
