Ian Wright makes silverware prediction about Tottenham, fans will love this
By Will Butcher
Ian Wright believes Tottenham will win silverware in the near future because they possess the players and the manager to do so.
Spurs were knocked out of the Europa League by Gent on Thursday night after drawing 2-2 at Wembley, failing to overturn the 1-0 loss to Hein Vanhaezebrouck’s side in the first leg.
Speaking on BT Sport on Saturday afternoon, former Arsenal striker Wright claimed that Spurs will win a trophy sooner rather than later but pressure should be eased on Mauricio Pochettino.
“There’s no point trying to heap pressure on Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino,” Wright said, as quoted by BT Sport’s official Twitter account.
“I know in the next few years that Spurs will win a trophy somewhere along the line and that’s because of the manager and the players and the way they are.”
The loss to Belgian side Gent in the Round of 32 has left Spurs competing on just two fronts now, in the form of the FA Cup and the Premier League.
Spurs face London rivals Millwall in the FA Cup quarter-finals and could see that as their best opportunity to win silverware this season with Chelsea 13 points above them at the top of the pile.
However, Pochettino will be hoping his side can reduce that deficit to 10 points on Sunday, with a win against Mark Hughes’ Stoke City at White Hart Lane.
Spurs have already beaten the Potters 4-0 at the Britannia this season, and a repeat of that will see the north London giants move into second place as Man City are not in action this weekend.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have won the race to sign this striker.
