Ianis Hagi backed to complete Rangers return after deal agreed – expert

Rangers loaned out Ianis Hagi with a view to bring him back into the first team.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton said Hagi doesn’t fit Michael Beale’s style of play at the moment.

On 27 August, Rangers confirmed that the 24-year-old has joined La Liga side Alaves on a season-long loan.

Hagi’s current contract at Ibrox runs until 2026 after he joined from Genk back in 2020.

The Romania international made just 11 appearances for the Gers last term after returning from a knee injury that kept him on the sidelines for over a year.

When asked if Hagi will return to Ibrox with a view of getting back into the first team next summer, Hutton told Football Insider:Time will tell.

If he goes out and he plays well and gets his minutes up because he was out for a long period of time with a serious injury.

It is not just a light switch that you can turn on and your form comes back, it takes a little bit of time so he is going to have to work his way back in.

So if he goes out, does well, gets the minutes, I think that is why they sent him on loan, with a view to come back and really push.

He has definitely got something I just think Rangers are heavily loaded in forward areas at the moment and for Hagi to be left out, that shows Beale is looking for something slightly different.”

In other news, Rangers set for £25m+ payout – £4.3m already heading to Ibrox.
