Ianis Hagi: McAvennie shocked by Rangers U-turn

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi can still ‘add something to the team’ after being brought back into the fold by Philippe Clement.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Celtic star Frank McAvennie believes the 25-year-old is a ‘decent player’ but admits he’s not sure what is going on with the financial aspect of bringing him back into the first team.

Hagi had been forced to train with the reserves over the summer as the Glasgow club desperately tried to find a suitor for the Romania international in a bid to earn much-needed funds.

Now, however, the attacking midfielder looks set to make a remarkable return, taking to social media to tease Rangers fans.

Ianis set for sensational Rangers return

The playmaker has a clause in his contract that would see his wage increase after playing a certain amount of games, hence why he was initially put up for sale.

After a disappointing loan spell at Spanish side Alaves last season, Hagi impressed on the international stage, helping Romania reach the knock-out rounds of a major international tournament for the first time in their history.

“They’ve brought the boy Hagi back in, and I think he’s a decent player”, McAvennie told Football Insider.

“I don’t know how they sorted that out because if he plays another game they have to pay him X amount of money, I don’t know where that came from.

“But he’s a good player, he’ll come into the fold and add something to that team that’s for sure.

“We’ll see, it’s a strange one at Ibrox, everything is up in the air.”
