Ianis Hagi: Rangers fans shocked by Gheorghe Hagi reveal

Rangers fans have been taken aback after Romania legend Gheorghe Hagi weighed in on his son Ianis Hagi’s situation at the club.

Football Insider revealed (August 26) that the 25-year-old has been told he can leave Rangers for a “significant” fee this week before the window closes.

Hagi has been banished to the reserves, alongside fellow attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell, as both club and player try to work on a solution.

Romanian side Rapid Bucharest had been in talks with Rangers over a move for Hagi, but the midfielder has reportedly turned the move down in favour of staying at the Glasgow club.

His father has ruled out a return to Romania for his son but has described the situation at Rangers as “ugly” and claims he told the Rangers board to “shut up”.

The Romania international had been a regular at the club, making 99 appearances, scoring 16 goals, and providing 21 assists before being frozen out by new manager Philippe Clement.

Hagi spent last season on loan at Spanish side Deportivo Alaves before having a starring role for his country during Euro 2024.

Fans have now taken to social media as they react to Hagi senior’s remarks on his son’s problems at the club.
