Ianis Hagi shares Rangers training ground update after absence

Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has taken to social media to share a training ground update after his absence for their 2-1 Europa League win over Union St.Gilloise.

The 26-year-old wasn’t included in Philippe Clement’s European squad so was unanavailable as Rangers secured a place in the Europa League round of 16 with an eight-placed finish in the new-look league phase.

Nicolas Raskin opened the scoring for the home side against the Belgian club, latching on to James Tavernier’s pin-point cross from a well-worked corner.

Vaclav Cerny doubled their lead at Ibrox just after halftime with a close-range effort thanks to a fantastic run and ball from Cyriel Dessers.

Kevin Mac Allister, brother of Liverpool midfielder Alexis, got one back for the visitors in the 89th minute, but it was too little too late, and the Scottish Premier League side held on for the win.

Several Rangers stars took to social media to commemorate the win and subsequent qualification, including Jack Butland and Tavernier.

Ianis Hagi determined to impress after missing out on Rangers Europa League celebrations

Hagi, who had previously been forced to train with the reserves under Clement has returned to the fold, starting 13 of his 17 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing five assists in his 1203 minutes of action.

It had been reported that Hagi had been offered a new deal at Rangers, but that claim has since been refuted with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

The Romania international had a starring role in their 3-1 Scottish Premier League win over Dundee United in the game before the one against Union St.Gilloise, providing the assist for Robin Propper’s goal.

Hagi took to Instagram to share a training ground update ahead of their league game against Ross County on Sunday (February 2).

Clement’s side will have to wait until after the Europa League playoffs to find out who they will face in the round of 16.

Rangers remain some way off arch-rivals Celtic at the top of the league despite an uptake in form, sitting in second, ten points behind on 50.
