Ibrahima Konate, Nicolas Jackson react to ‘important’ Axel Disasi Aston Villa post

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson have reacted to a message from Aston Villa defender Axel Disasi after a win in the Champions League against Club Brugge.

The 26-year-old defender started in an unfamiliar right-back role, after Andres Garcia was left out of Aston Villa’s Champions League squad, and was replaced by Matty Cash after 64 minutes.

Leon Bailey opened the scoring in the third minute, with a lovely volley past former Liverpool goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet.

Brugge responded in the 12 minute, after the Jamaican winger failed to pick-up the run of left-back Maxim De Cuyper, who slotted past Emi Martinez.

Tyrone Mings then made an astonishing clearance off the line, to keep the scores tied at 1-1.

Villa capitalised on that fantastic piece of defensive awareness, by forcing Brandon Mechele to put the ball into the back of his own net, before a defensive gaffe from Christos Tzolis allowed Marco Asensio to score a penalty.

Axel Disasi tells Aston Villa fans ‘job’s not done yet’

Following the win, the French international posted three photos of himself in action against the Belgian giants, captioned: “Important win today, but the job’s not done yet.”

Disasi’s France international teammate Ibrahima Konate, and ex-Chelsea teammate Nicolas Jackson, both liked the post, showing their support for the Villa man.

Disasi joined Aston Villa late in the winter transfer window, after being linked with Premier League rivals Tottenham and Wolves.

The Frenchman endured a difficult time at Stamford Bridge, after his move from Monaco, but Disasi has looked more comfortable under Unai Emery.

Aston Villa heading for season-defining run of games

Football Insider Verdict

Whilst the Premier League title seems guaranteed to be heading to Anfield, and the relegated sides looks to be all but locked in, the struggle for European qualification is stull up for grabs this season.

From Brentford in 11th, to Nottingham Forest in third, there is just a ten point gap, and the Villains are in that maelstrom of teams jostling for European places.

Following losses to Wolves and Crystal Palace, and draws with Ipswich and Liverpool, Villa are now 10th, a far cry from their fourth placed finish last season.

Competing in the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League seems to have taken it’s toll on Emery’s team, but their next three fixtures against Brentford, Brugge and Preston will define how the rest of their season plays out.

Should the Villains progress in the FA Cup and Champions League, as predicted, the Spaniard may look to focus his side’s efforts on those competitions, foregoing Premier League success.
