Ibrahima Konate reacts to new Cody Gakpo announcement at Liverpool
Ibrahima Konate has given his response to a fresh update on Liverpool teammate Cody Gakpo after the attacker’s recent form.
Having joined the club in the January 2023 transfer window from PSV Eindhoven, the Dutchman initially struggled to settle at Anfield.
Indeed, there were even questions about Gakpo’s future at Liverpool heading into the last stages of last season.
The current campaign though has seen Gakpo emerge as a key Liverpool player under new manager Arne Slot, helping them compete for multiple trophies.
That was particularly the case in January, where the attacker produced a number of standout performances for the club, helping them to their current six-point lead at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand.
Despite the disappointment of their FA Cup defeat to Plymouth, Liverpool have also reached the final of the Carabao Cup, and finished top of the Champions League group phase.
Now his exploits in recent weeks have been recognised, something that it appears Konate in particular is pleased to see.
Cody Gakpo hailed for recent Liverpool success
In the wake of his recent exploits, which saw Gakpo score four goals and provide one assist in six appearances in all competitions across January, the winger has been named Liverpool’s Player of the Month for that period.
On Tuesday (11 February) the club and player took to Instagram to post a picture of him holding his trophy to acknowledge that award.
It is a result that appears to have gone down well with at least one of his Liverpool teammates, with centre-back Konate among those to like the post.

Cody Gakpo flying for Liverpool this season
Football Insider Verdict
An award such as this feels well deserved for Gakpo given the way he has stepped up for Slot’s side this season with some crucial goals.
His goal against Man United was an one such example of that, ultimately earning Liverpool a valuable point that helped maintain momentum in the title.
Indeed, switching to a role on the left rather than through the centre as had previously been the case is certainly paying off for all involved, who will be desperate for Gakpo to continue in that form in that position for a long time to come.
