Ibrahima Konate sends message to Liverpool fans after ‘walk out’ claim

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate took to social media to send a message to the fans after their 2-2 Premier League draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday (February 19).

The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool dropped two valuable points at Villa Park in the race for the Premier League title.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett believes Konate was lucky to be playing at all after avoiding a red card in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Wolves in the previous fixture.

The Villa match was an end-to-end thriller and, for the second consecutive midweek for the visitors, was not without a significant dose of controversy.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett believes Axel Disasi “should have walked” after appearing to lash out at Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister wasn’t without blame, however, committing a “clear holding offence” for which Hackett slammed referee Craig Pawson.

Mohamed Salah scored his 29th goal of the season for Liverpool, pouncing on a defensive miscommunication between Axel Disasi and Andres Garcia to open the scoring.

Youri Tielemans restored parity in the 38th minute before Ollie Watkins gave the home side the lead in added time of the first half.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the equaliser just after the hour-mark, sending Liverpool eight points clear at the top of the table before Arsenal face West Ham on Saturday (February 22).

Ibrahima Konate happy as Liverpool drop points at Aston Villa

Konate has been a regular for Liverpool so far this season, starting 25 of his 28 games across all competitions, popping up with two goals, and providing two assists in his 2175 minutes of action.

Football Insider revealed (February 18) that there are growing concerns amongst the Liverpool hierarchy regarding his inconsistency amid interest from the likes of PSG and Real Madrid.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Liverpool are accelerating their move to sign a new centre-back even if Virgil van Dijk commits his future to the club.

Konate took to Instagram after the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, seemingly happy to leave with a point, he said: “Take the point and move forward. Thanks for the support tonight.”

Arne Slot’s side will take on current champions Man City on Sunday (February 23) in what is likely to be a crucial game for both clubs.

Liverpool will then face Champions League hopefuls Newcastle in what should be another tricky fixture for the Merseyside club.
