Ibrox Exclusive: Pundit makes 'Incredible' Rangers claim as Celtic spooked
Rangers have “incredible” depth in quality of strikers in comparison to Celtic this season, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Aberdeen and Leeds hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has claimed that Odsonne Edouard is the only “natural goalscorer” at Parkhead.
The French forward, who missed three games for Celtic as he recovered from the impact of a positive Coronavirus test, returned to action as a substitute against Lille on Thursday night.
The likes of Patryk Klimala, Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths all stepped in for Neil Lennon’s men during Edouard’s absence from the side.
Meanwhile, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been able to call on all four of his strikers – Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten – for the first time after their respective injury problems.
Whelan insists that Edouard was sorely missed by Celtic and that his absence proved the Hoops lack the same attacking quality as their Glasgow rivals.

Whelan told Football Insider: “Any goalscorer you will miss. I look at their strikers and they’re good strikers but they’re not natural goalscorers like him.
“You look at Kemar Roofe, you look at Jermain Defoe, you look at Morelos, that is a very strong front three. When they’re all fit, the options that you have off that bench are incredible.
“Now Celtic have been missing that with Edouard, it’s now time for him to get back to his best, start showing Celtic and driving them forward with the goals he was scoring last year and the year before that.
“It will push Celtic a lot closer to Rangers but when you look at it, it’s not their goalscoring that is the problem right now, it’s their defence.”
Edouard has netted six goals across all competitions this season, one less than the Hoops’ current top scorer Moi Elyounoussi.
James Tavernier currently tops the scoring charts at Ibrox with nine, while Morelos is the top-scoring striker with six.
