Ibrox Sources: Multiple English clubs want Rangers big earner, Gerrard willing to let go

Multiple English clubs are keeping tabs on Rangers winger Jamie Murphy after the brilliant start to his Burton Albion loan, Football Insider can reveal.

The winger, 30, has revived his career since his January move to the English League One club and this is leading to a stampede of interest ahead of the summer.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Murphy is surplus to requirements at Rangers and Steven Gerrard is willing to let him go in the summer.

The forward has just over a year remaining on a lucrative contract signed when he completed a £1million move from Brighton in 2018.

Burton are among the clubs keen to sign Murphy, and would be eager for a permanent transfer as well as another loan.

The Scotland international is due to head back to Ibrox in the summer, but there is a growing likelihood he won’t play for the Light Blues again.

Rangers do not see Murphy as capable of being in their first team next season even though he has made a huge impact south of the border in recent months.

At Burton, Murphy has started 10 consecutive league matches, scoring seven goals and supplying two assists.

He was initially a regular when Steven Gerrard took over as manager but has not made a single start for the club since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament on Kilmarnock’s plastic pitch in August 2018.

The former Premier League wide man made just two sub appearances in the first half of the campaign before his loan.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have made preliminary moves to sign 25-year-old with 7-figure valuation.
