Ibrox sources: Rangers chiefs miffed by ’19 sale ahead of hasty Mark Allen exit
Rangers chiefs were miffed by the unexpected summer sale of Daniel Candeias, Football Insider has learned.
The Portugese winger was a big hit at Ibrox during his two-year stay after winning supporters over with his consistent delivery and tireless energy.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that there was shock among the hierarchy when Candeias was offloaded for just £250,000 to Turkish outfit Genclerbirligi.
It has been suggested in some quarters that sale of Candeias for a knockdown fee was one of the reasons for Mark Allen’s hasty exit as director of football in September.
The agreement was reached for the 31-year-old to leave after the arrivals of attacking quartet Sheyi Ojo (on loan from Liverpool), Greg Steward, Jack Hastie and Jordan Jones.
Yet none has offered the consistency of Candeias on the right flank, which has become Rangers’ problem position ahead of the January window.
As reported by Football Insider, the SPL title chasers are in the market for a right winger who is capable of slotting straight into the team in the second half of the campaign.
Ojo, Scott Arfield and Brandon Barker have each been used on the right flank in recent matches but none has offered the consistency Candeias did in his two years.
The Portugese not only had a fine relationship with James Tavernier on that side of the pitch, but also provided a regular supply of quality deliveries for striker and big friend Alfredo Morelos.
Candeias made 97 appearances for Rangers, scoring 14 goals and supplying 25 assists.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that a big-name player who’s left Gerrard ‘seething’ is set for January exit.
