Rangers are confident of making a profit this summer on Croatia international Borna Barisic despite his disappointing debut campaign, Football Insider can reveal.
The Glasgow giants had high hopes of the left-back, 26, when they signed him last summer from NK Osijek for a fee of around £2.2million after impressing against them in the Europa League qualifiers.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that Rangers will listen to offers this window for Barisic as they look to reshape the left-back position, with fans favourite Lee Wallace already released.
The club expect to make money on Barisic, given his international pedigree, age and the three years he has remaining on the four-year contract he signed 12 months ago.
The defender came through the ranks at Croatian side NK Osijek but has also had spells at NSK Bijedlo Brdo and Dinamo Zagreb as well as a loan move to Lokomotiva.
Barisic made 22 appearances for Rangers last season but was frozen out in the final months and did not make the starting line-up for the last seven league matches of the campaign.
Steven Gerrard preferred to sign right-footers Andy Halliday and Jon Flanagan ahead of the six-times international at left-back.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have scrapped plans to sign 23-year-old permanently due to the stunning emergence of an Ibrox man.
