Rangers have tabled a contract offer to Rennes defender Edson Mexer as they work on making him their latest new signing, Football Insider understands.
The Glasgow giants are working on a deal to bring the centre-back on board for next season after Steven Gerrard was pictured in France last week.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that Rangers have offered a long-term deal to Mexer, whose contract with Rennes expires this summer.
Gerrard is in the market for a new centre-back as loanee Joe Worrall is heading back to parent club Nottingham Forest at the end of the campaign and veteran Gareth McAuley is out of contract.
Mexer is on the manager’s radar because of his experience and pedigree, which has made him a fixture of Ligue 1 side Rennes for the last five years as well as brought him 44 Mozambique caps.
He has made 41 appearances this season for the French outfit, who are 13th in the league table and lifted the Coupe de France.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club are ready to terminate the contract of a 26-year-old.
