Rangers are set to open new contract talks with rising star Josh McPake, Football Insider understands.
Manager Steven Gerrard is a big admirer of the versatile forward, 17, who won the Rangers academy player of the year award, and is convinced he can make it at first team level.
An Ibrox source has told Football Insider that the Glasgow giants are set to offer McPake a long-term deal to replace his current agreement, which expires in the summer of 2020.
The young Scot has yet to play for the Rangers first team but is earning rave reviews for his performances for the reserves, after graduating from the Under-18s this season.

McPake played a starring role as the Light Blues beat Celtic at Hampden in the Scottish Youth Cup Final and also blew the watching Gerrard away with his performance in last week’s 4-4 draw against Liverpool Under-23s.
