'I'd Never Have Guessed' - Exclusive: Pundit surprised by Leeds spending reveal
Alan Hutton has been stunned by the amount Leeds United have spent on signings since their Premier League return as he hailed their “great ambition”.
Ex-Aston Villa defender Hutton told Football Insider, he was surprised by the amount of money the Whites committed to transfers last year.
As revealed via FIFA’s Global Transfer Market Report, Leeds were among the top spenders in 2020 as only five clubs splashed out more cash on new signings.
Leeds brought the likes of international stars Robin Koch, Rodrigo and Diego Llorente to Elland Road last summer, while they also invested in a number of hot prospects for the future.
Hutton admitted he was amazed at the extent of Leeds’ transfer business last year but suggested they still needed to find the right balance to their side.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I wouldn’t have known that until you told me, I’d never have guessed.
“It shows great ambition. When they came up, especially a lot of the teams that come up you need to spend to try and compete but it’s a difficult one because you can get it wrong.
“Look at Fulham, when they came up and spent all that money and went straight back just Villa nearly did it and just managed to stay up so Leeds are having a go.
“They’re all-out attacking football, for the neutrals and for the fans of Leeds, it’s good to watch but there’s a lot of problems also that come with that. They need to try and find that blend between attack and defence.
“They have had injury problems, don’t get me wrong, at the back but nice to see them having a go, it’s refreshing to see.”
