Everton and Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye has claimed that Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is the best midfielder in the world.
Gueye has made 28 league and cup appearances for Everton this season since signing from Aston Villa for £7million last summer.
The Senegalese battler has scored one goal and assisted just two since his arrival at Goodison Park, after being relegated with Villa last season.
In his column on Sport 360 Gueye spoke of David Beckham as an early idol of his, before going on to talk about Kante – who signed for Leicester City at the same time that he signed for Villa in 2015.
Gueye said of Kante: “For me, Kante is the best midfielder in the world right now.
“Last season, he helped Leicester win the title and looks set to do it again with Chelsea.”
Gueye has been a feature in Everton’s last three matches – playing 90 minutes in the 4-0 win over Hull City, the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool and the 1-1 draw with Manchester United last night.
The Senegalese midfielder also admitted he was close friends with Kante in his column, and that they shared the same flight to England before signing for Villa and Leicester respectively.
Gueye’s Everton currently sit seventh in the Premier League, level on points with Arsenal who have three games in hand, with a Europa League spot realistically the only thing left to play for.
Meanwhile Chelsea, with Kante playing a major role, look to be cantering towards a fifth Premier League title.
