Idrissa Gueye, Nicolas Jackson react to West Ham transfer announcement

Everton’s Idrissa Gueye and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson reacted to a transfer announcement from West Ham on social media.

The Hammers desperately need reinforcements following a dismal 2024/25 campaign.

Julen Lopetegui’s spell in charge ended just 20 games after it had begun, and Graham Potter was appointed as West Ham’s new boss.

But under the former Chelsea boss, the Hammers sputtered along and were somewhat fortunate that the bottom three were as bad as they were, or else a relegation battle would have been on the cards.

A late-season surge covered many of the issues as West Ham clambered their way up the Premier League table, ultimately finishing 14th.

However, the club were under no illusions that their squad needed an immense amount of work and just a year after Tim Steidten’s calamitous summer splurge, the East London club will once again be busy in the transfer market.

West Ham announce El Hadji Malick Diouf

West Ham have made El Hajdi Malick Diouf their second senior signing of the summer, after Jean-Clair Todibo’s loan was made permanent.

The Irons shared an image of their new left-back on Instagram, captioned: “West Ham United is delighted to announce the signing of Senegal international El Hadji Malick Diouf”.

The post was liked by Senegal teammates Jackson and Gueye, showing their support for the new Hammer.

West Ham have perfect Aaron Cresswell replacement

Football Insider Verdict

After 11 years of service, Aaron Cresswell departed West Ham on a free transfer this summer and has landed at Stoke City.

The England international split time as the starting left-back at the London Stadium with Emerson Palmieri and young star Oliver Scarles.

However, the position proved to be a problem for Potter, with the ex-Swansea City boss struggling to pick a favourite between the three.

Diouf will solve that problem. In June, Senegal became the first African team to beat England, claiming a 3-1 win at the City Ground.

On that day, West Ham’s new defender was the best player on the pitch. Despite being just 20 years of age, the left-back is the perfect modern fullback, a strong defender and a talented offensive option.

Potter may take is time before giving Diouf the starting role, given his lack of experience at the highest levels of club football, but in time, it would be no surprise to see the Senegalese defender become one of the best at his position.
