Idrissa Gueye reacts to Jordan Pickford announcement at Everton
Jordan Pickford was the subject of a new announcement from Everton and caught the attention of teammate Idrissa Gueye on social media.
The 31-year-old has been an indispensable cog in the Toffees’ machine over the last eight seasons, remaining in between the sticks through thick and thin, and being rewarded for his loyalty.
He has remained a rock-solid base of the team’s defence for years, the usual partnership of James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite relaxed with him behind, though both will be unavailable this weekend for the final game of the season at Newcastle.
The shot-stopper’s performances on Merseyside have seen him also become an important member of the England squad, making 75 appearances since 2016, and he looks set to improve on that this summer.
Jordan Pickford called up by Thomas Tuchel again
Taking to Instagram (23 May), the official club account wrote: “Another England call-up for JP1,” liked by Gueye as a show of support for his teammate.
David Moyes to keep Everton bedrock amid The Friedkin Group’s takeover
Football Insider verdict
While supporters on Merseyside will be expecting The Friedkin Group to open their warchest for Everton to rebuild the squad this summer, it will likely be a long-term project for the new owners.
Ashley Young and Abdoulaye Doucoure have both confirmed their exits on social media in recent days, joining Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia out the exit doors once their contracts expire.
With multiple changes still expected, not least the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, David Moyes will need to ensure he has a tight-knit squad kept together before welcoming in new talent.
Player | Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |

Branthwaite could certainly push for an Everton exit after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions squad again, but Gueye, Dwight McNeil, Iliman Ndiaye, and Tarkowski are all integral.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Everton have set their sights on Angel Gomes after announcing his Lille exit, and that could just be the first of multiple exciting signings made by the Toffees.
Pickford’s current deal runs until the summer of 2027, but given his impact on the team, fans will find it important for the goalkeeper to put pen to paper on a fresh deal with the Toffees.
