‘Ignore the noise, Andre Onana is staying at Man United’
Manchester United will be forced to take a big loss if they decide to sell goalkeeper Andre Onana before the end of the window.
Onana arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, for an initial fee of around £44million.
However, his time at Man United has been plagued with a number of high-profile errors, which have raised question marks over his long-term future at the club.
The Red Devils have been linked with Emiliano Martinez as a potential replacement, but would have to offload their current shot-stopper before any move for the Argentine can be made.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that United would have to accept offers way below the £44m they spent two years ago, if they want to sell Onana this summer.

Man United to make Onana transfer decision
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that he expects Onana to stay at Man United, as the club would suffer too big a financial loss if they tried to move him on.
The 29-year-old has also recently suffered a hamstring injury during United’s pre-season training, which will make selling him even harder.
Wyness added that the Onana situation highlights the “really bad buying strategy” the Red Devils have had for the last five years.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “There’s been a lot of noise about it, but I actually expect Onana to stay at Man United. I think they’ve been tested in the market and as with many of their players, they’re seeing that they would have to take a pretty big loss.
“When you look back over, again, this brings into view, and it’s not necessarily Ratcliffe, but it does bring into view the really bad buying strategy United have had for probably five or six years now. They’re buying at the top of the market with really big wage packages, and it makes it very, very hard to offload players.
“Onana is another example of that. So I don’t think he’ll go. I think he’s going to stay and try and fight for his position. I don’t know what Amorim’s view on him is. I think that with a pre-season under Amorim, it may well instill confidence.
“He’s got a lot to prove. I think underneath there’s a keeper there somewhere, and I think he may be worth another try for a season.
“United would be selling at too big of a loss for them to get rid of him. They may end up having to stick with what they’ve done in terms of previous mistakes, in terms of losses that they’ve suffered to sell players.”

Man United make preliminary Douglas Luiz move
Meanwhile, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Man United have registered their interest in signing Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.
Everton are also keen on the 27-year-old, who has four years remaining on his current contract but could leave Italy with a return to the Premier League a possibility.
However, David Moyes’ side would prefer to sign the Brazil international on loan rather than committing to a permanent deal given the finances involved.
Man United are willing to negotiate a loan-to-buy deal with the Italian club, placing them firmly ahead of Everton in the race to reach an agreement.
