Ignored and sold by Pochettino at Tottenham, big-name player shares fascinating verdict
By Harvey Byrne
Former Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has shared that he has a “good relationship” with Mauricio Pochettino, despite the manager ignoring and releasing him.
The now 32-year-old made the move to White Hart Lane in an initial loan deal from Manchester City in the summer of 2011 before completing a £5million permanent transfer the following summer.
He enjoyed a very impressive goal scoring run in the team under Tim Sherwood with a return of 14 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions.
However, following the appointment of Pochettino Adebayor featured just 17 times in all competitions, scoring twice.
The Argentine manager decided not to renew the Togo international’s contract at the club in the summer of 2015, allowing Adebayor to leave on a free transfer.

But, the striker has shown no animosity to the club or manager in a fascinating verdict, stating his respect for what Pochettino is achieving.
“I’m happy for Pochettino and how they are doing,” told Adebayor to the Guardian.
“Things didn’t work out between us but he is a great manager and we still have a good relationship despite what people might think. We still keep in touch – he is a good guy and has changed Tottenham. I don’t know whether the fans there hate me or love me but they should remember one thing, which is that there was a time when I scored goals for them and made them happy.”
Adebayor is currently without a club after his contract expired at fellow London side Crystal Palace in the summer.
He struggled at the south east London side with just one goal from 15 encounters and it looked as though the Premier League is a level above him as he enters the late stages of his career.
He is currently with national side Togo at the 2017 AFCON and he started in his country’s opening 0-0 draw with Ivory Coast on Monday.
The experienced man will now be looking to impress any onlooking suitors as he looks to find a new club.
