Ilkay Gundogan expected to exit Man City after ‘100 per cent’ reveal – pundit

Kevin Campbell expects Ilkay Gundogan to leave Man City at the end of the season despite Pep Guardiola’s lavish praise for the midfielder.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said Gundogan’s future is “not a priority” for the Premier League champions.

Gundogan, 32, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad.

Speaking to club media (24 October), Guardiola heaped praise on the Germany international and claimed he can always be relied on “100 per cent.”

City’s manager said he “will never forget” the “incredible” midfielder who has been “a pleasure to work with.”

When asked by Football Insider if Guardiola’s comments suggested a new contract was incoming from Gundogan, Campbell said:

“The problem is, his contract is running out and in January he will be able to speak to European clubs.

“Why have they not secured him? It doesn’t look to me as if he is a priority.

“He is a fantastic player and has been the difference for Man City in key games. He is not their priority though, clearly.

“I think Gundogan will leave. If there was an opportunity to secure his services for another season or two they would have done it already.”

Gundogan has contributed two goals and one assist in nine Premier League appearances this season.

He also played the full 90 minutes of Man City’s goalless draw with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (25 October).
