Illan Meslier savaged as ‘atrocious’ footage re-analysed – Leeds fans fume

Leeds United took a significant step towards a Premier League return on Monday (25 February) when they defeated their promotion rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Whites picked up a huge 3-1 win in a game packed with late drama as Daniel Farke’s side scored two goals in the last two minutes of the game to snatch a win.

The Yorkshire giants had to do it the hard way though after going behind in the 14th minute via an own goal from Illan Meslier, who appeared to push the ball into his own net.

Junior Firpo drew Leeds level in the 72nd minute before Ao Tanaka scored a dramatic 89th-minute winner, only for Joel Piroe to seal the deal just a minute later with their third goal of the game.

The result means that Leeds now boast a five-point gap over the Blades at the top of the Championship following 34 games.

Leeds have only lost three times in the league this season and will now prepare to face West Brom on Saturday (1 March) at Elland Road.

Illan Meslier made another horrific Leeds blunder

It was a night to remember for Leeds fans against Sheffield United, but it was one to forget for Meslier.

The 24-year-old made another mistake that led to a goal as the Frenchman never looked confident in the early stages of the game, eventually palming the ball into his own net.

Meslier has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Championship this season, but his major mistakes are something he is struggling to eradicate from his game.

Leeds United fans want their goalkeeper sold

Daniel Farke might have kept the faith with Meslier throughout the season, but Leeds fans have now given up on him completely.

The shot-stopper is under contract at Elland Road until 2026, but fans have made it clear that the first job in summer has to be to “get rid” of him.
