Illan Meslier to be ‘fined two weeks wages’ after Leeds bust-up – expert

Leeds ace Illan Meslier could face a fine of two weeks’ wages after his red against Preston North End on Boxing Day.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Rangers defender Alan Hutton criticised the “silly” incident and claimed it cost the Whites all three points.

Meslier was dismissed early in the second half for pushing Milutin Osmajic after confronting Ben Whiteman just moments before.

Osmajic dramatically went to ground, but Meslier’s action was more than enough for referee John Smith to brandish the 23-year-old the first red of his career.

Hutton had little sympathy for the shot-stopper and claimed any fine would depend on how Daniel Farke felt about the controversy.

“It depends on the manager but for doing something so silly he could get fined two weeks’ wages from the club,” he told Football Insider.

“Anything can happen. He put his team in a really difficult situation and then they go and lose the game.

“Preston went on and scored a couple of minutes after Meslier got sent off, so he’s effectively cost his team those three points.

“It’s the red mist. He gets involved with players twice.

“As soon as you lift your hands to somebody, you’re always running the risk of getting sent off.

“He lost his head completely for a minute and he cost his team.”
