‘I’m amazed by this’ – Liverpool praised after agreeing ‘brilliant’ new deal

Liverpool have agreed a “brilliant” deal to sell Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich this summer.

The Colombia international has spent the past three-and-a-half years with the Merseyside giants after joining from Porto for an initial £37.5million in January 2022.

Football Insider revealed on 25 July Bayern Munich were preparing an improved offer for Diaz after seeing a £59million bid rejected earlier this month.

The Athletic reported on 27 July the Bundesliga champions have now agreed to sign the winger for £65.2million.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he doesn’t understand how the two clubs have reached that valuation for the 28-year-old.

Diaz recorded his best season in a Liverpool shirt in the 2024-25 campaign, where he registered 17 goals and eight assists in 50 appearances as Arne Slot’s side lifted the Premier League trophy.

Bayern Munich have agreed ‘bad’ Luis Diaz deal

Borson revealed he’s “amazed” Bayern Munich are willing to pay such a hefty fee to sign Diaz this summer.

He told Football Insider: “The player wants to go, clearly they’re going to get a mega fee for a player of his age.

“I mean, I’m amazed that Bayern Munich want to do this deal, but they clearly do.

“I think it’s a deal that’s brilliant for Liverpool and good for the player.

“I’d say bad for Bayern Munich, but they want him. I like the player.

“He’s obviously not everyone’s cup of tea, but I just don’t really understand how they’ve come to that price.”

Liverpool plot new Anthony Gordon move

It’s been a business transfer window at Anfield, with Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman all making the move to Merseyside.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 10 July Liverpool remain interested in signing Anthony Gordon and are plotting a late-summer move to secure his signature.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider the Reds will step up their interest in Gordon if Diaz’s exit is confirmed.

The Newcastle United winger has been a long-term target for Liverpool after coming close to joining the club last summer.
