‘I’m driving Ederson to Saudi’ – fans react to journalist’s Man City transfer news

Man City supporters were in unison in their response to an update regarding Ederson’s future at the club.

The Brazilian has been a cornerstone of Pep Guardiola’s side since arriving in 2017, but questions around his long-term role continue to grow.

Speculation of a potential exit has intensified in recent weeks, with former financial advisor Stefan Borson claiming Man City would be willing to accept offers in the region of £25 million for Ederson this summer.

He has just one year remaining on his current contract and could be part of a wider shake-up at the Etihad. The likes of Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Jack Grealish have also been linked with departures at Man City, who appear to prepare for what may be a transitional summer.

Now, following the latest update on Ederson’s situation, fans have taken to various platforms to express their view, with many urging the club to cash in while they still can.

Ederson open to Saudi Pro League move as Man City weigh summer decision

Jordan Campbell of The Athletic revealed on 3 June that Ederson is “open” to a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer in their latest ‘DealSheet’ report.

The report adds that a potential transfer was already in motion last year, but no Saudi club was prepared to meet City’s valuation at the time. With the Brazilian now entering the final year of his contract, this window could be City’s last real opportunity to receive a significant fee for him.

Back in April, Football Insider reported that Ederson was likely to leave Man City, and he has since cast doubt on his long-term future at the Etihad.

With no contract extension currently being discussed, the 31-year-old is believed to be weighing up his options and a lucrative offer from the Middle East could prove too tempting to ignore.

Man City fans call for sale amid Diogo Costa replacement links

As uncertainty around Ederson continues, the club are already being linked with possible replacements as Man City have identified Porto’s Diogo Costa as a leading target should Ederson depart.

The money received from a Saudi move would likely be reinvested in a new goalkeeper, with Guardiola keen to ensure a seamless transition between the sticks.

Supporters appear to be on board with the idea of moving Ederson on. One fan wrote: “We need to cash in right now” while another added: “We’re not making the same mistake twice, if he’s open to them, then let him go.”
