‘I’m going to scream’ – Celtic fans react as Brendan Rodgers closes in on managerial return

Celtic fans have reacted angrily to new reports that former boss Brendan Rodgers has accepted an offer to make his managerial return.

Rodgers surprisingly left Celtic in October after a fallout behind the scenes over his contract, transfers and the board’s aims for the future.

He had led the Glasgow giants to four league titles across his two spells at the club, while he was also named the Manager of the Year in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Football Insider revealed, following his Celtic exit, that Wolves were eyeing up Rodgers to succeed Vitor Pereira, but they ultimately appointed Rob Edwards instead.

Leeds have also been linked to Rodgers amid uncertainty around Daniel Farke’s position in charge, but he is now set to leave these shores to take over at a club abroad.

Rodgers is close to becoming the new Al-Qadisah manager

Celtic have moved on from Rodgers, with Wilfried Nancy now their new permanent boss after Martin O’Neill oversaw a successful interim spell.

The Northern Irishman has been out of the spotlight since he left Parkhead, but is now set to return to management as he reportedly closes in on becoming the new boss of Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah.

They sacked former Spain international Michel Gonzalez on Sunday (14 December) in the middle of their winter break, with the club sitting fifth in the table ahead of a return to action against Al-Ettifaq on Friday (19 December).

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Rodgers is travelling to Saudi Arabia to complete a deal to become their new manager, with his extensive experience and style of play making him their preferred candidate for the role.

Celtic fans react to Rodgers’ new role as Nancy struggles

New Celtic boss Nancy has lost each of his first three games in charge so far, with a 3-1 League Cup final defeat to St Mirren on Sunday compounding his woes less than two weeks into his tenure.

Some Hoops fans reacted to news of Rodgers’ new job by calling out the Frenchman, with one saying: “Can you send Nancy instead,” while another added: “Could’ve held out a week for the Celtic job again.”

Others urged him to return to Parkhead, saying: “Brendan playing the long game here. Go to Saudi, make yer billions, come back in 6 years to buy a majority stake to boot out Desmond and Co before reappointing yourself for a third term.”

While some congratulated him and criticised Celtic for allowing him to leave, saying: “Saudi clubs have more ambition than the @CelticFC board” and “WELL DONE BRENDAN.”
