'I'm Hearing...' - Exclusive: Agbonlahor drops verdict after Aston Villa signing sealed

Midfielder Morgan Sanson will prove to be a very clever addition to the Aston Villa squad in the busy second half of the season.

That is the view of Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer Gabriel Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the club announced the signing of the Frenchman from Marseille.

Sky Sports report the Midlands giants have paid an initial £14million fee for Sanson which could rise to £15.5million with add ons.

The 26-year-old moved to Marseille four years ago and helped the side finish runners up in Ligue 1 last season and reach the 2018 Europa League final.

The move comes as Conor Hourihane joined Championship side Swansea City on loan until the end of the season, as first revealed by this site.

Asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Villa’s new arrival, Agbonlahor said: “I’m hearing that he’s a bit of an all-round midfielder.

“It just adds competition for places. If a player has an off game, which they haven’t all season, but if it happens he will get his chance.

“There’s a lot of games left in the season. There will be a lot of games where there are injuries or suspensions so to get him in just shows where Villa are going.

“It’s a credit to the club.”

Dean Smith told the Aston Villa website after the deal was announced: “Morgan is a player with the quality and experience to play in any midfield position.

“He will add real competition for starting places and gives us more squad depth which is vital to competing successfully in the Premier League.”
